Ormolu Clocks

Ormolu is the process of applying gold-mercury amalgam (amalgam being the result of the gold-mercury mixture) to an object made out of bronze. This technique was used to make many things, especially clocks.

Every single one of these clocks has a somewhat dark story attached to them. It is said that most people who made this type of clock didn't live over their 40s due to the exposure to mercury. I now have appropriately named them The Clocks, OF DEATH!

It Demands a Sacrifice!

The night of April 14-15 a blood moon will be visible all around the world, especially North America. It will be a total lunar eclipse. During a blood moon the moon the moon will appear to be, yeah you guessed it, red. I've never really seen one, so I guess I'll make sure I don't miss it.

It looks kinda like this.

Alfred Nobel

A.K.A the Swedish chemist who invented dynamite, but he also invented the Nobel Prize. I know what you're thinking "How did he go from dynamite to something as honorable as a Noble Prize?" So I'll tell you. Alfred's brother Ludvig died while visiting Cannes. Mistakenly the newspapers in France published that it was Alfred who had died. "The Merchant of Death" was how they titled Alfred when he had "died". As you already guessed, Alfred was not pleased at how he will remembered.

When his time actually came, in his last will he established the Nobel Prizes to be awarded annually to anyone who deserved it. He spent most of his resources creating the first five Nobel Prizes.

Check out every Nobel Prize winner here.

And that's how the Nobel prize was made. I guess you can say his reputation just "blew up".

A child with three parents

A medical procedure that uses DNA from three people as a solution for genetic illnesses passed down through the mitochondria. Sounds neat huh? Well, for many people not so much. You see lots of people are not cool with genetically modifying babies, and for good reason. I'm not going to go deep in the details. If you want,  read some more here. I'll leave you with this. Do you think that this type of scientific research is hurtful or important to humanity?

Three Gorges Dam

This will be more of an interesting fact. So, the Three Gorges Dam is the largest dam in the world. Its located in China. To keep it short, when it was built the workers had to divert a lot of water to the side of the river. This actually affected the rotation of the earth by a fraction. It may seem like nothing, but it's actually no easy feat.

As always here is a link to a video that explains everything on the subject.
